Wanna be the next Banksy? We can’t work miracles, sorry - but we can point you towards this fun little street art workshop. Taking place in Brooklyn, New York - the birthplace of contemporary street art, FYI - this hands-on group workshop is the perfect intro to urban art. You’ll master techniques like tagging and throw-ups and learn a little about the culture surrounding graffiti in the Big Apple. The experience is completely hands-on, and you’ll walk away with some of the (basic) tricks of the trade and a few snaps of the cool, colourful mural you and the group sprayed together (perfect for the ‘gram). Best of all, this experience is run by a known street artist in NYC, so you’ll get an understanding of the process from someone who knows, loves and is super talented in the form (here’s hoping it rubs off). Think of this as your first stepping stone on the road to Banksy-level stardom … or just a cool, creative way to spend an hour. Happy spraying.
About your guide
Brooklyn Unplugged know their niche and they’re sticking to it. The team delivers tours centered around New York’s sprawling borough: uncovering its hipster scenes, art, history and its cultural enclaves. If you fancy digging a little deeper into Brooklyn - these are your guys.
Here’s the plan…
Meet the group at Wyckoff Ave. From here, you’ll be in the capable hands of a local street artist. Across the next hour, they’ll run you through the basics of graffiti, demonstrating how to tag, throw-up and create murals - and passing along some constructive feedback as you attempt all three. By the end of the hour, you’ll have picked up a general understanding of graffiti and its application, and gained some info on the street art scene here in New York and the contemporary artists who define it. Plus, you can brag to your friends back home that you’ve worked on a unique piece of graffiti art with a proper street artist. Cool right?
